How To Create Lo-Fi / Bitcrushed Sounds For Trance Tracks...

In trance music, the rythmic sounds are playing a prominent part in any tracks. Producers are always looking to innove with new sounds which could really make their track stand out. During the last years we have seen a strong trend for lo-fi sounds, also refered as bitcrushed sounds.

There are two ways of achieving this effect. The first one is simply to get samples that are already processed, and already sounds bitcrushed. While very simple, you will not really be able to modify / adjust the sounds as you want, and it can become a problem for the originality of your track.

There is simply no better than to "do it yourself"! There are many very good freewares out there that do bitcrushing.

If you produce with Ableton Live you are lucky because there is very good bitcrusher effect integrated by default with the soft. You can find it in the Browser, under Live Devices > Audio Effects > Redux.

If you don't work with Live and if your sequencer doesn't come with a bitcrusher by default, you can simply add one as a vst plugin. The one I would recommend is CMT Bitcrusher. It's a very simple freeware developped by students from a Finnnish university; it can be downloaded from http://cmt.siba.fi/studies/Courses/2001-2002/VST/plugins/CMT_Bitcrusher/_code/CMT_Bitcrusher.zip. There are 3 settings to play with: Drive, Bit-depth and Down Sampling – this last one being the one you want to experiment with.

To conclude I would say that bitcrushers are damn easy to use, and are a great tool to experiment with sounds; to create your "own" sound... On the other hand, it’s just a tool and should not be used for everything in my opinion. We hear too much of these bitcrushed sounds everywhere lately! So use it smartly in a balanced manner, avoid the "too much"...

This article is just a snippet of a more comprehensive series of articles about to be released, if you want to find out more about trance production, check regularly our blog at Frozenforce: http://www.frozenforce.fr/blog

Write Music That Appeals To Peoples Emotions

Whether you write music first or lyrics first, please remember this one thing. Melody is king!

I want to explain why I believe that statement to be true.

I know when it comes to songwriting all of the elements must fit together just so. There has to be a perfect marriage of lyric, melody, structure and feel. That is the hallmark of a great song.

But I have heard too many songs that seem to focus primarily on the lyrics. The writer has poured out his or her soul to create a truly touching and beautiful story. Then those wonderful lyrics are paired with a mediocre, or even (gasp!) boring melody.

The result? A mediocre, boring song!

Those lyrics might work wonderfully on their own. But a monotonous unimaginative melody drags them down.

Appeal To The Emotions

As a songwriter, writing melody that appeals to the emotions of your listeners should be your top priority.

Why?

Because it's the melody that our brains latch onto first. A melody on it's own can make you cry, laugh and everything in between. It truly can be a direct communication to the soul. An interesting mood-evoking melody commands our attention. It makes us sit up and take notice.

Only then do we start to pay attention to the storyline. To the lyrics. And if those lyrics are top-notch: Bingo! You've hit the jackpot.

Write Lyrics As Good As Your Melody

Now, this scenario can also be looked at from the opposite side:

You write music that is truly inspiring. You then settle for the first lyrics that pop into your head. You don't bother rewriting those lyrics. You figure that since they fit the melody and tell the story they are good enough.

I did this for years! And I was always secretly embarrassed by my lyrics.

As songwriters, we must strive for that perfect balance. And it takes time and effort to master. (I'm still working on completing my apprenticeship!)

Work On Your Weakest Skill

If you only want to write music or you only want to write lyrics, that's okay. Collaborating with writers who excel at what you do not is a great way to write songs. If you love to write melody, find yourself a great lyricist. Or vice-versa.

Most of us are better at one aspect of songwriting than we are at others.

For me, it's always been writing melody that seems to come naturally. As a lead guitarist I usually opted for the slow, melodic, soulful lead over the fast shred. Through the years I've written quite a few instrumentals that I am proud of.

Lyrics have always been a struggle for me. That's why I tend to spend a lot more time working on the words to my new songs than I do the melody.

But I spend quite a bit of time on writing melody too! Because I understand how important a great melody is.

Listen To Your Melodies

Listen to the melodies you are writing. Are they as strong as your lyrics? Perhaps more importantly, can they stand on their own?

A melody should be able to stand on it's own. It should be moving, interesting, somewhat predictable and a little surprising at the same time.

I say somewhat predictable because we all need familiarity. If every line goes off in a completely different direction you will lose most of your listeners.

People must have something that they can grasp immediately. Especially in the chorus.

So go and write music that moves you. If it moves you, you can be pretty sure it will move others too.

Happy melody writing!

Advanced Blues Guitar Lessons and Guitar Scales

Never before has there been so much information from so many great guitar teachers readily accessible to new guitarists, which is an advantage that many older musicians would have loved when they were learning, but it means that finding where to start becomes more difficult.

One of the first decisions a guitarist has to make is whether to learn to play electric or acoustic guitar. Some guitar instruction dvd are explicitly for one or the other instrument. The two types of guitar are not completely interchangeable with anything beyond very basic techniques, and how a guitarist plays one is influenced by the instrument. For example, many lead techniques end up too quiet or muddled to actually be very useful for an acoustic guitarist, since an electric guitarist relies on the amp for volume.

A common thing many new guitarists here is that acoustic is easier to start with than electric. That isn’t to say acoustic guitar doesn’t require the same level of skill to play well, just that not having to deal with issues like feedback make the basics easier to pick up.

The two project sound so differently that playing the two the same way can lead to unpleasant results.

There are so many ways to do the same thing on a guitar, that even two people in the same genre may not play very similar. Focusing on the style you want will ultimately make it faster and more enjoyable to learn playing guitar.

Some beginner guitar scale chart for beginners start out with the basic open chords, strumming patterns, and similar techniques, which is a great way for most guitarists to start. Luckily, there are lessons more in line with these styles and starting in them, but it is important to recognize that if there is a particular style you want to play, you do need to focus on learning that. The general approach is a good starting point for people not sure what they want to do or want to be more well rounded, but people with a focus on a particular style may want to focus on that particular style.

Even if learning that style is more difficult, you will be far more motivated to put in the practice and time if you enjoy what you are playing then the generic approach. Taking the time to think about your goals is a good way to make the right selection of free guitar scales. As helpful as the advice of others can be, deciding what you want out of your guitar playing will help to ensure you can learn to play what you want in far less time than you might expect.

Want to Dance then Download Disco MP3 Music or Buy Funk MP3 Tracks

Disco is a style of dance music with roots in R & B, Jazz and Latin music. It took the world by storm around 1972 and reached its peak around 1979. Disco continued into the 1980s by evolving into Hi-NRG on one front and House music on the other. Explore all aspects of Disco.

Global Groove Digital is a 70s-80s Disco dance music resource featuring a discography of vinyl disco records and CDs, Disco history, Top 700 Disco songs charts, artist / DJ interviews and a Disco message board to discuss Disco music, buying and selling records and asking for help in identifying unknown Disco songs. You can Download Disco MP3 Music or Buy Funk MP3 Tracks form this site.

Disco music is a blend of soul music and funk, set to 4/4 time syncopated rhythm, making it easily danceable. In the mid-1970s, it became the music to listen to, and the most often played in discotheques, or discos. New forms of dance, many of them based on ballroom dancing styles were adapted for disco music, and for a while, most of the Western world was swept up in the style.

Disco music had a lush orchestral sound, and bands often included several singers, the traditional bass, drums and guitar, and highly synthesized sounds. Full horn sections and string sections were not unusual in many bands, since synthesizers were still in their infancy and there was not much in the way of the sampling synthesizers that would eventually dominate the music of the 1980s. Vocals were an important aspect, with vocal tracks subject to heavy reverberation.

A few artists can be said to have dominated the disco era. The Bee Gees was a very popular group, which featured the singing trio of Maurice, Robin and Barry Gibb. Not only did they record multiple platinum records, but they wrote numerous songs for other artists. Other disco artists, more known for their disco music than any other style include Donna Summers and Barry White, and bands like Earth, Wind and Fire and ABBA. Disco music is marked by many musicians from other genres jumping on the disco bandwagon to produce hits.

As disco music grew in popularity, plenty of artists, either from the soul, pop or contemporary music tradition recorded disco music hits. Rod Stewart’s “Do Ya Think I’m Sexy” is a good example of a musician of the rock-n-roll genre who had a huge disco music hit. Other well-known artists to produce disco music include Carly Simon, Barry Manilow, Paul McCartney, Frank Sinatra, Barbara Streisand, Michael Jackson, and Eartha Kitt. All of songs are available at Global Groove Digital.com and that is good news for you than you are able to Download Disco MP3 Music or Buy Funk MP3 Tracks.

Disco music remained popular up to the late 1970s, when people began to hold anti-disco rallies. The amount of airplay devoted to disco music, and the destructive nature of the disco lifestyle, especially on the east and west coast took its toll on many musicians. Hedonistic dance clubs like New York’s Studio 54 were sharply criticized because of the easily accessible and explicit use of drugs and sexual activity. Eventually, disco music gave way to several different forms of music in the 1980s, including the new wave movement, and numerous lighter rock bands like Journey, XYZ and The Tubes.

Disco left its indelible mark on the music to follow, especially in the power ballad vocals of rock bands and the highly synthesized music of the new wave movement. Yet there was a return to more elemental music with fewer musicians. Bands like The Police, U2, and artists like Bruce Springsteen and John Cougar Mel encamp would become popular for using traditional rock ensembles of bass, guitar and drums with only light dependence on synthesizers.

A few of the great disco music hits include the following:

• The Bee Gees—"Jive Talkin," “You Should be Dancin,” and “Stayin’ Alive.”
• Donna Summers—“Bad Girls,” “Last Dance,” and “MacArthur Park.”
• Amii Stewart—“Knock on Wood”
• Gloria Gaynor—“I Will Survive”
• Earth, Wind and Fire—“September”
• KC and the Sunshine Band—“That’s the Way (I Like It),” and “(Shake Shake Shake) Shake Your Booty”
• Thelma Houston--- “Don’t Leave Me This Way”

One of the greatest things about going to a really loud rave is the feeling of the bass traveling through your body. Standing in front of the speakers and feeling the air moving with the sound waves, rumbling through, from your toes to your nose. That experience is not going to happen from a pair of headphones. Maybe they have air blasting speaker simulation systems and an earthquake machine or something. Ah, as long as the music is good, the people will dance.

We Can Download House & Dance Music Or Mp3 Music Easily From The Internet Easily

Planning the perfect corporate event, holiday party, team building event, employee appreciation day, company picnic, family reunion, fun fair or other special event is an easy task when working with a professional event planner. Many people planning special events are overwhelmed with fitting event planning tasks into their schedules, especially if it is their first time producing an event.

Selecting the right music for your audience is essential in ensuring your guests have a memorable and enjoyable experience at the event. When hiring a DJ, MC, band, specialty act or musical group it is important to assess the underlying goals of the event.

House music has always been pushed forward by DJ’s wanting and craving new music. Music that their peer’s haven’t yet heard let alone had the ability to own. Music that is upfront and rare.

As the volume of dance labels and artists increased towards the end of the last millennium, mainly due to the ability to produce very highly polished music on a simple pc, the sales quantity of each release decreased as the market did not increase with amount of new music flooding in.

With this change record companies needed to address costs to reflect these lower sales. Label’s looked to technology to help cut the costs of running their business. One major area where this came to fruition was promotions.

For years the DJ’s choice and only option was vinyl, clubs only had vinyl turntables and in the odd instance where they did have CD turntables they were very poor. This changed with the launch of the pioneer CDJ series. DJ’s were suddenly able to do everything they could on vinyl turntables and more but using CD’s.

Labels had previously had only one option to press a run of promotional records to send out to DJ’s. The cost of manufacture and shipping to DJ’s was huge. Overnight DJ’s could use CD’s. It’s much cheaper to manufacture and half the price to ship, an added bonus was that music could be burnt straight from a pc where the track had been written and in a DJ’s hands the following day being played to a packed club that evening.

For labels and producers this was a fantastic way to promote new music and for the DJ this was bliss new music really quickly - fresh and exclusive! All went well with this new format until the mp3 came along.

Suddenly promotional music was finding its way onto the file sharing sites like Lime wire and Soul seek. DJ’s who had been sent music on CD or even emailed as mp3’s began sharing this music.

The thought process behind people doing this went against all that had gone before as most DJ’s hide their secret weapons rather than sharing with anyone at all. This had a knock on by taking the control the labels had of who had their product when and where away. Also potential revenue began being lost and to a section of the music industry where every sale counts this was frustrating and hugely detrimental.

Dance music releases usually only have a shelf life of around 8 weeks. There are obvious exceptions to this rule but 95% of releases are played in clubs and sell for this length of time and that’s it. File sharing screwed this up by both the sales and also the structure of the chosen few influencing bigger DJ’s not having something they can fully get behind during the promotional stage of a release.

Therefore less people got to hear it, less are influenced and less potentially buy it. The industry has never really recovered from file sharing but more recently the sale of mp3’s and specifically dance music mp3’s has boomed and this has helped to a certain extent slow the decline and with time the scene could once again flourish. The one problem dance music has encountered with sales of mp3’s is price but that is another story.

The reason why MP3 is getting so popular is that that MP3 music usually is cheaper than any CD’s or DVD’s and some sites even offer it completely for free.

But the distribution of MP3 files over the internet may also have some downsides. The MP3’s you can download on many sites are protected by copyright, so the distribution and download of these MP3 files is illegal. Although there have been filed several lawsuits over this particular issue, but this practice still continues to flourish.

Luckily there are also some sites that offer only legal MP3 music for download, so you can be assured that all of your downloads from these sites are absolutely legal. No copyright or law will be broken, so you and your MP3 downloads remain secure.

Drum & Bass MP3 Downloads Lesson Are Available On The Web To Make It Much Easier For Young Learners

Music enthusiasts and instrumentalists declare that it is quite easy to learn how to play the guitar. For neophytes, it may be challenging to strum the strings when you don't know the basics of musical notes and keys.

Drum & Bass MP3 Downloads lesson are available on the web to make it much easier for young learners to learn the rudiments of creating music by strumming the instrument. The acoustic side of music is growing and it is creating a huge niche of followers, that's why many music fanatics are becoming interested in obtaining those lessons with or without an instructor.

If you want to acquire Drum & Bass MP3 Downloads lessons, you must have a reliable desktop unit and speedy internet connection. There are sites that have integrated videos, though, which can actually be viewed on Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox without having to download them just as long as you have Windows Media Player that permits playability. If your Internet connection is not too fast to play immediately, you can just download the files prior to playing them.

The whole lesson of a Drum can be learned immediately even in just an hour. There's an easy memory technique that you can be viewed by downloading Drum & Bass MP3 download lessons or perhaps reading some e-books and listening to audio books as well.

The workbook sections of your Drum & Bass MP3 download lessons are your quick reference on the theories and instructions to get you on the move. Most video lessons support mp3, wav, mp4 and AVI files which make it easier for you to view them.

So many smart musicians get a small hand held digital recorder just to keep handy so if an idea pops up you can hum it into the recorder real quick and not let it get away. How many times have you been humming a great idea for a song and thought you'd remember it for later... ya right!

Years ago I had one but it was a mini cassette recorder, until it got stolen out of my car. The Boss Micro BR Digital Recorder makes good sense because it will serve this purpose but goes far beyond that as it's a 4 track recorder as well, as opposed to the other mini, hand held digital recorders out there... I mean, why not get one that is a 4 track recording studio in your pocket as well?

This is not a home studio but a pocket studio! Really, four tracks that will play back simultaneously and 32 virtual tracks, which are actual tracks you can record many takes on and use later for picking the right ones and eventually build on to one of your 4 tracks for that "perfect take".

For actual recording, you can use 2 tracks at once, so you and someone else on another guitar, bass or whatever can lay it down at the same time right down with the drum track.

Speaking of which, the drum tracks that come with it will play back without taking up any of the other tracks, meaning they're independent of them. There are about 300 of these drum grooves ready to go.

But the really great feature this Boss Micro BR Digital Recorder has is one of the onboard effects, and that is the Time Stretch feature. I've used similar programs that cost several hundred bucks to do this "must have" feature. What it does is take any of your audio tracks, including mp3 format, and changes the tempo, up or down without changing the pitch.

That's right, your key stays the same and you can speed it up or slow it down. So you can download an mp3 drum track online and throw it on the Micro BR and totally change it to suit your tempo needs. Once you have this feature you really won't be able to work without it.

While this may be the most extensive and acclaimed library of MP3 lessons, keep in mind that learning independently is not for everyone. If you have never even picked up an instrument, consider taking a few lessons with a teacher first before diving into self-learning.

Learning to hold an instrument and getting a sense of the basics from a professional in person can get you off to a solid start. After that a course like Music Master Pro can take you to a level that weekly lessons may not be able to.

Guitar Lessons DVD Also Include Free Guitar Scales

With so many learn to play guitar dvd out there, it can hard to know where to start as a beginner.

Some learn to play guitar dvd are explicitly for one or the other instrument. The two types of guitar are not completely interchangeable with anything beyond very basic techniques, and how a guitarist plays one is influenced by the instrument. However, some pretty basic classical guitar techniques are very difficult to use on an electric guitar, because feedback issues sometimes develop due to the heavier use of open strings.

Acoustic guitars are much more forgiving instruments than electric, which is part of the reason this is a common view. That isn’t to say acoustic guitar doesn’t require the same level of skill to play well, just that not having to deal with issues like feedback make the basics easier to pick up.

So the choice becomes a matter of picking blues guitar lessons on the type of guitar you want to end up playing. If you want to be an electric guitarist, learn to play on an electric. It will save headaches later on. While learning techniques from a variety of learn to play guitar dvd can be quite beneficial and fun, focusing on learning the basics first will make it easier to learn those techniques later on. The two project sound so differently that playing the two the same way can lead to unpleasant results.

There are so many ways to do the same thing on a guitar, that even two people in the same genre may not play very similar. Focusing on the style you want will ultimately make it faster and more enjoyable to learn playing guitar.

Some beginner free guitar scales for beginners start out with the basic open chords, strumming patterns, and similar techniques, which is a great way for most guitarists to start. However, funk, blues, metal, and classical guitarists won’t find this the best starting point.

Taking the time to think about your goals is a good way to make the right selection of guitar scales. As helpful as the advice of others can be, deciding what you want out of your guitar playing will help to ensure you can learn to play what you want in far less time than you might expect.

Be sure to visit our website to find the right blues guitar lessons for you. The variety and information available through us is sure to please any new guitarist, be they beginner, intermediate, or even more advanced players.

Choose Best Vinyl Music with White Label Dance Promos

If you're anything like me, you like music... lots of it. If you're like me you are a pack rat. A bad combination, because now you're collecting lots of vinyl music. And you're collecting CDs too, let’s not forget those. CDs play and store better than our dusty collection of vinyl music, we use them regularly.

Now you must ask yourself... When was the last time you played one of your vinyl music? Do you have a turntable/record player? How many times have you moved since the last time you played one of your records? You might realize that you don't play them anymore.

An analog format such as vinyl music are said to be more accurate to the source of the music than digital formats, which convert the music into a digital format, before being converted back to analog for reproduction.

Vinyl music provides a richer, warm tone than digital formats. The reason for this better tone is because the grooves on records provide more musical data to your amplifier. When the stylus (needle) fits into the groove of the record, it vibrates in such a way that is reminiscent of the sound waves present when the artists performed the song. When amplified, you get a reproduction of the original performance.

When the musical data is converted into a digital format, there are various "resolutions". To use photos as an example, it would be the difference between a 100x100 pixel picture, and a 1000x1000 pixel picture. For CDs, it is 16-bit. Then, there is a sample rate, which is how often these photos are taken. For CDs, they happen 44,100 times per second. For SACDs, an amazing 2,000,000+ samples per second. You can see how the more advanced digital formats would sound better than CDs, which is how most people listen to digital music.

In the case of digital formats like MP3 and AAC, some of the higher frequencies get pulled out to save space, in addition, these formats are taken from a CD, and compressed, so they could never approach the sound quality of a CD. I expect digital music formats to continue to gain in popularity, and I also expect even better formats to come out, with new digital format re-masters, which could sound much better than a CD, have more customization options, and of course, undisputed portability. Are you listening, record companies?

Now the question arise that how specifically vinyl sounds better?

Vinyl seems to reproduce the higher frequencies much better. On digital, high frequencies (voices, cymbals, drums, etc.) sound thinner, harsher, "swishy", and simply not as good. On vinyl, these high frequencies sound more natural, less harsh, and more "real". Also, very small high-pitched nuances shine through better, like for example when a bass player plucks a string.

Bass seems to sound fuller on vinyl music as well. It sounds thicker, richer, more natural, more nuanced. It's nice. When listening to bass on vinyl, you'll know why so many DJs still use vinyl music to this day. On digital, bass seems to be muddier, thinner...it has less impact.

It's true that vinyl music does have some weaknesses, such as pops and hiss, but these are eliminated if the record is clean. The pops and hiss also add a nostalgic charm to the sound of the music. Some artists, especially hip hop, have incorporated this sound into their music.

If you love the sound of music, and want to hear something that has a better sound than CDs and MP3s, you should give vinyl a listen. Once you hear it, you'll become a fan too!

If you're like me, you are ready to part with most of this vinyl music. There is no way you or I will part with all of them. Some are just too sentimental and will remain with me, and with any luck the vinyl records can be passed on to my children. I hope to pass on a turntable or two, so that they can play the old vinyl music.

White label Dance Promos records are vinyl music with adhesive plain white labels affixed. Test pressings, usually with Test Pressing written on the label, with catalogue number, artist and recording time or date, are produced in small quantities (usually fewer than 5 copies) to evaluate the quality of the disc production. Plain White Label Dance Promos were produced in larger quantities by bigger record labels, often containing a biography of the band, to distribute as demonstration discs ("demos") to vinyl music distributors, and radio stations in order to assess consumer opinion.
